Superb work! Had you not told us I would have found it hard to believe the figures began life as ACW. The tip on making a mold for turning out component parts is invaluable. I'm faced with the prospect of making tricorns for a converted infantry regiment and I admit I'm balking at the task. A mold will make things so much easier.

The yellow is Foundry lemon, their three part scheme. I find the three shade schemes don't necessarily work too well on the flatter figures - they're really for the chunkier, more undercut figures. So in this case it's mainly the mid-shade, with a little shading and a little highlighting. Some of the transparency is due to using a white undercoat. I much prefer this, I guess because I generally like the "unrealistic" vibrancy of fancy and full dress figures rather than the drab realism of accurate portrayal.

And, yes, I've discovered Bliztkrieg Commander, but not yet played it. It looks like a ruleset right up my street (I'm fond of its ancestor, Warmaster). I am committed to this with 10mm as well as FoW with 15mm, for long, boring and complicated reasons, mainly to do with the enthusiasms of two different opponents.

I'm jealous . . . I live in a place that has less than two hundred years of recorded history (and not much happened of note).

So I envy your ability to visit such historic places -- places I'll never get to see other than in photos.

I agree, awesome and impressive indeed! You're close to it and know what your vision was so you see the flaws or shortcomings as you perceive them, but to the rest of us it looks great!
I would definitely recommend making one version of some of the common pieces and doing some casting. It will speed up the conversion, make them more uniform and any flaws less noticeable. Add an excellent paint job as you have done on this fellow and you might be amazed how good a unit of them will look on the table.

Honestly, mate, you're a genius. Been wanting to do SYW for ages but was put off by the cost, I'm really thinking of doing what you've done. Was thinking about how I could do it quickly and I noticed you were worried about keeping the hat the same size each time. Have you thought about using a deep(ish) press mold? I think it would work with the mirliton as it spirals inwards and it might save you a lot of time to just sculpt one of certain details. It might work for certain styles of tricorn as well. The best of luck to both your projects. It's interesting that you're going to use a medley of figures from periods other than the SYW. I have a heap of Napoleonic figures, both French and British I can draw upon, and now I might use those for my imaginations.

So far, I've not been tempted by 40mm. I don't really see what they offer above 25/30mm, except increased cost! The quality difference does not seem to me particularly marked, and, as I like big battles, the need for more space also seems a downside.

But, then, we wargamers are fickle,and I've changed my mind before........
